2020 Twilight Tour in Forks, Washington Travel Guide

The Twilight book and movie series effectively placed the small logging town of Forks on the map. It is the rainiest town in the contiguous United States nestled inside the Olympic National Park. With the amount of rainfall it receives each year, Forks is surrounded by lush rainforest cloaked in emerald green mosses with wilderness and beaches only minutes apart from each other. It’s in this sleepy town that Stephanie Meyer chose as the new home of Bella Swan, the story’s heroine.

While planning our Pacific Northwest road trip, admittedly, I was most excited about the Twilight Forks tour. In fact, it’s been my decade-long dream and the main inspiration behind our PNW trip. Though the Twilight Forks self-guided tour was an amazing experience, I was not prepared for the kind of life-changing experiences we’ve had in the Olympic Peninsula most especially in the rainforests. That said, even for the non-Twilight fans, a visit to the Olympic National Park and the state of Washington is a bucket-list item!

Here are some noteworthy tips for first-timers:

  • We visited in 2020 (pandemic) and the Chamber of Commerce only allowed 2 visitors at a time. They blocked off the Twilight displays, however, can still be seen from a few feet away.

  • Forever Twilight in Forks gallery and La Push Beach were closed during our visit.

  • The Twilight movie series was not actually filmed in Forks, WA. Most of the film set locations were in Oregon and around Vancouver, Canada. The cost of making the movie was the major determining factor and required locations with amenities, lodging, rentals and equipment.

  • The Twilight Forks tour is best for the book series readers. It’s easy to imagine the kind of inspiration the Olympic Peninsula has given Stephanie Meyer while writing the book series. The Quileute Indian Reservation and the S’kallma Tribe gives off that mystic feeling, a perfect setting for werewolves in her story.

  • Forks is nestled inside the Olympic National Park. While there, why not visit one of the 6 rainforests in the area.

  • The state of Washington has an excellent coffee culture! Give one of their small drive-thru coffee shops a try!

  • For the Twi-hards, consider visiting in September during the Twilight Festival. We visited in October and the foliage in Mount Rainier was spectacular, however, not much in Forks.

  • Be prepared for the unpredictable weather in the Olympic Peninsula, no matter the time of the year. Even in summer, temperatures may vary up to 20 degrees depending on your location in the peninsula. Also, expect rain!

  • The Twilight tour can take as little as 1 hour to finish, however, some prefer a more leisurely pace. Also, allow some time to scour through some of the Twilight-related gift shops for souvenirs.

  • To get to know Forks more outside of the Twilight series, stop by the Timber Museum right next to the Chamber of Commerce office.

Start your tour at the Visitor Center/ Forks Chamber of Commerce to get the self-guided tour map, other printed materials and ask questions. There is a closed-off Twilight display but you can still see them from a few feet away. The staff was very welcoming and helpful during our visit.

Outside of Forks Chamber of Commerce office is 2 versions of Bella’s truck (from the book and movie). Also in the same area is the “City of Forks Welcomes You” sign.

2. The Swan Residence

775 K St. Forks, WA

This is the inspiration for Charlie Swan’s house in the book series. Bella’s room is on the top floor. Outside the house is a sign that says “The Swan Home, being remodeled by Esmee and Alice Cullen, built in 1905.” This is a private residence and though they are gracious enough to allow strangers to take pictures of their home, it is best to be courteous during your visit and not disturb the residents and neighbors.

3. Dr. Cullen’s Parking Space & Forks Community Hospital

530 Bogachiel Way, Forks, WA

The address above is the actual address of Fork’s Community Hospital, however, Dr. Cullen’s parking space is located on 5th street near the Administration Building. To get there from Bella’s house, continue on K. St. which turns to 7th Ave. Stay on 7th Ave and turn right on Bogachiel Way and turn right on 5th St.

The old 1925 building has been replaced with a new building, however, the old sign is still displayed outside on the front lawn.

5. Forks Police Station

500 E Division St. Forks, WA

Forks Police Station is located in the city hall. There used to be a Twilight display honoring Chief Charlie Swan with free souvenirs but it’s not available during our visit. I’m not sure if it’s temporarily restricted due to COVID-19 or if it’s been permanently removed.

6. Forever Twilight in Forks Gallery at Rainforest Art Center (closed 2020)

35 N Forks Ave, Forks, WA

The Rainforest Art Center was closed during our visit. The Forever Twilight in Forks gallery consists of movie props and costumes.

7. Cullen’s House (Miller Tree BnB)

654 E Division St, Forks, WA

The Cullen’s house in the movies is nothing like the house described in the book. Stephanie Meyer penned the Cullen’s house as probably a hundred years old, painted in soft white, 3 stories and with a wrap-around porch. Nothing quite the more modern structure in the movies. The Miller Tree matches the description in the book so it was assigned as the Cullen’s residence. This charming farmhouse was originally built in 1916.

8. Newton’s Olympic Outfitters (Forks Outfitters Thriftway and Ace Hardware)

950 S Forks Ave, Forks, WA

In the book, Bella worked with Mike Newton at Newton’s Olympic Outfitters. This store is not just an outfitter but also an Ace Hardware and a grocery (Thriftway, Bella’s preferred grocery store).

9. Twilight Souvenir Shops

Native to Twilight: 10 N Forks Ave, Forks, WA

Twilight Central: 130 Spartan Ave, Forks, WA

In my research, I’ve constantly seen “Dazzled by Twilight” shop but I found out they were permanently closed. We visited both gift shops listed above but liked the “Native to Twilight” shop better. Aside from just the Twilight souvenirs, they also have an impressive array of PNW and Quileute souvenirs which inspired me to open my own online shop later on.

10. The Treaty Line (Three Rivers Resort)

7764 La Push Rd, Forks, WA

Located just before the Three Rivers Resort is the “Treaty Line” sign. On one side, the sign says “Welcome Twilight Fans, Treaty Line” and the other side says “No Vampires Beyond This Point”. From Highway 101, turn left to Highway 110 heading to La Push. The narrow drive reminds me of the aerial shots of Bella driving her truck in the movies.

11. Billy and Jacob Black’s Residence

8320 La Push Rd, Forks, WA

Less than 5 minutes away from the treaty line is the Black’s residence. Outside is Jacob’s bike displayed right under the mailbox. This house is a BnB called Jacob Black’s Vacation Rental.

12. Quileute Indian Reservation/ La Push Beach (closed in 2020)

The Quileute Indian Reservation and La Push Beach were unfortunately closed during our visit. The drive there was beautiful, again through the narrow road lined with spruce trees. The picture below was taken before we made a U-turn on Highway 110 when we found out that La Push was closed.

13. Rialto Beach (across La Push Beach)

We were told to visit Rialto Beach as an alternative to La Push Beach. First, they look similar and are conveniently located across each other. Rialto Beach is also a part of the Quileute Indian Reservation. It also has many drift logs just like La Push Beach.

14. Bella Italia (Port Angeles)

118 E 1st St, Port Angeles, WA

This is the restaurant where Edward and Bella dined in Port Angeles. In the book, Bella ordered a mushroom ravioli which the restaurant included on their menu aptly named “Bella’s Mushroom Ravioli”. We ended our Twilight tour the day prior since our campsite was in Forks. Bella Italia was still closed when we passed by Port Angeles the following day.
